COVID-19 Mcard Production Information
All Ann Arbor campus ID stations are closed until further notice. Michigan Medicine ID stations remain open specifically for Michigan Medicine individuals. No campus Mcards are printed at Michigan Medicine ID stations.
Only Individuals who are considered healthy Ann Arbor campus “Critical Employees” by their unit and have a damaged or lost/stolen Mcard may make an appointment for a replacement Mcard. Students can obtain a temporary Mcard from their residence hall Community Center. Other cardholders will be required to wait until campus ID stations return to normal operating hours. The ID station operations status is found on this web page: http://finance.umich.edu/treasury/mcard/get-your-mcard/id-stations
Ann Arbor critical employees requiring an Mcard can send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. (If a person does not have email, please call Dave Doyle 734 330-3469.) The email should contain the following information:
- Person’s eight digit UMID number.
- Indicate issue for Mcard.
- Reason for critical need.
- Department authorization may be required in certain circumstances.
A response will confirm email receipt and have further instructions about when and where the Mcard would be ready for pickup at Wolverine Tower. Do not visit Wolverine Tower until you receive a date/time for Mcard pickup. Mcards will be produced between Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM.
Michigan Medicine ID Stations below are both open for Michigan Medicine cardholders only. These ID stations cannot print Mcards for non-Michigan Medicine cardholders.
- Key & ID office is open normal hours
- The North Campus Research Complex ID office is available by appointment - Call: 734-764-9004. All access requests must be emailed to email@example.com.
Ann Arbor Campus Mcards
People affiliated with Michigan Medicine must obtain a Michigan Medicine Mcard.
Government photo ID (i.e., driver's license, state ID, passport) is required at Mcard production. People wearing sunglasses, hats, caps, bandanas, etc. will be required to remove them before their photo is taken.
Generally, new students will obtain their first Mcard free at an ID Issuing Station or freshmen receive it during their orientation. Students must be matriculated and term activated. New students will not need a form to obtain their Mcards (except for Medical, Nursing & Pharmacy students).
Students who have a previous Mcard will be required to turn it in to obtain the student Mcard, otherwise a replacement fee may apply. Students who still have a valid unexpired student Mcard can continue to use that card until it expires. Student Mcards are valid for five years. Undergraduate and graduate Mcards both simply indicate STUDENT.
New employees will generally obtain their first Mcard free during the Human Resources New Employee Orientation. Faculty and staff may also obtain their Mcards at an ID Issuing Station with a completed Mcard Request and Change form if their employee affiliation is not in the Mcard system.
People who have a previous Mcard will be required to turn it in to obtain the employee Mcard, otherwise a replacement fee may apply. Employee Mcards are valid up to five years. The university department or unit name will print under cardholder's name and not their title. Employees with multiple appointments will choose the most appropriate single department/unit name to be printed on their Mcards. There is not a means of printing multiple department/unit names on Mcards.
(ManPower, Kelly, etc., see next heading)
Individuals hired as temporary employees from either U-M Temporary Staffing Services or a U-M department will need to bring a completed Mcard Request and Change form to an ID Issuing Station for their first free Temporary Mcard. People who have a previous Mcard will be required to turn it in to obtain the new Mcard, otherwise a replacement fee may apply. Temporary Mcards are valid up to one year.
Campus Contracted Temp, Contractor, Vendor, & Visitor Mcards
These cardholders are required to bring a Mcard Request and Change form and $4.00 to an ID Issuing Station. Mcards are valid up to one year.
People who have a previous Mcard will be required to turn it in to obtain the new Mcard. To replace expired Mcards, an ID Issuing Station will require new Mcard Request and Change forms, $4.00 and the expired Mcards.
Alumni can obtain an Alumni Mcard at any ID Issuing Station (except for the Michigan Medicine Key & ID Office). ID Issuing Station staff will verify Alumnus status and require a payment of $20. Alumni will not need to complete any forms.
Alumni Mcards are valid for five years. Alumni Mcards do not have any implied benefits. Expired Alumni Mcards are not required to be turned in to an ID Issuing Station for a new Alumni card, although each new Alumni Mcard requires a payment of $20.
University retirees, including professors emeriti, can obtain their first Retiree Mcard for free at any ID Issuing Station. A completed Mcard Request and Change form or Human Resource retirement letter is required for the production of the Retiree Mcard. ID Issuing Station staff will require verification of emeritus status to print an Emeritus or Emerita Mcard. Retirees will be required to turn in employee Mcards at the time of Retiree Mcard issuance, unless verified that cards were turned in to supervisor.
Retiree Mcards are valid for five years. After five years, retirees can exchange expired card for a new card. Expired Mcards must be turned in, otherwise a replacement fee will apply. See this link for additional information about expired Mcard replacement process.
