Alpha Programs (all 5 characters are letters) are designed to be used by units throughout the university, and numeric Programs are generally specific to an individual unit.
A numeric Program is used to represent a group of related activities and allows a department to track specific uses of money. Because this Program code is a departmentally driven value it can allow for great flexibility in regard to reporting needs, including the ability to track activity across more than one fund.
If a specific program value is not needed for a reporting purpose then the generic value of 10000 should be used in all funds where Program is required. This generally encompasses all operating funds. A Program may only be inactivated once all activity nets to zero at the Fund/Department/Program/Project level.
Use the Chartfield request form to request and modify a Program. Contact the Accounting Customer Service Team at the Shared Services Center with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or 734-615-2000, press #3, press #4.
